Keep your baby’s tender parts rash- free by cleaning his/her bottom every time you change diapers. Follow the tips below.
Wash away urine and stool with a warm, wet washcloth, and don’t forget to clean between the skin folds. Always wipe girls from front to back to prevent infection.
If you use baby wipes, limit the risk of skin rash by using one without alcohol or fragrance. You can skip lotions, powders and ointments for the same reason.
Dry completely and air baby’s bottom before putting on a clean diaper.
Safety tips
Never leave your baby alone on a changing table, a counter or any surface that is above floor level. In fact, don’t even turn your back! In only an instant, a baby can roll off a counter and fall.
Try changing your baby’s diapers on the floor. Put the baby on a changing mat or on a small blanket. This way, you will have plenty of space and your baby won’t fall.
If you use cloth diapers and pins, make sure the plastic hood locks the pin shut, so it won’t pop open. When removing a diaper, stick the pin in a bar of soap. That way, the pin won’t get lost on the changing area and it will slip through the diaper more easily.
