CURIOUS TODDLERS

GOING

POTTY

Training children to use the potty or toilet takes a lot of patience from parents. It is a new skill so the way to go is to let your child take her time. It is also important to understand that every child is different so do not compare.

Generally, children must feel the need to be dry and clean before they are able to control their bladder and bowels at will. Eventually, they will be able to go potty easily!

THE PROCESS

  • At 1 year old, most children stop passing stools at night.

  • At 2 years old, some children are able to remain dry during daytime.

  • At 3 years old, 90% of children remain dry on most days but it’s normal for them to accidentally wet themselves especially if they are distracted.

  • At 4 years old, almost every child can remain dry during daytime.

  • At 5 years old, most children remain dry when sleeping at night.
